The 10,000 sq. ft. clinic stands on grounds leased from a local hospital. It houses offices and examination rooms for three internists, three family practitioners and five physician's assistants; plus storage for medical records, a spacious waiting room, a children's play room and more. The founding physicians worked closely with Arvin Van Ry of Colorado Construction and the architect to develop an optimum layout for the needs of the rural community and the medical staff. Colorado Construction was instrumental in helping the physicians with the organization of their ideas for the function and structure of the building.

Each medical facility has a different need. AFMC opened in 1988 and the resident physicians are still pleased with it. The building was designed to be virtually maintenance free and has met the needs of the doctors, the staff, and the low-income community members it serves. Construction costs for the facility were cut to the bone using pre-engineered building systems. It is located on the same campus as the local hospital to give local residents easy access to inpatient and outpatient services.
